How it Works

TWiCE is a program for undergraduate women in computing.  Members provide mentoring, tech and instructional support, and host the server for the website and ‘tracking tool’.

TECH CORPS provides administrative support, GTC curriculum, volunteer coordination and training.

Ohio State University Women-in-Technology volunteers facilitate the GTC after-school sessions.

University Area Enrichment Association provides community connections, access to local resources and family support.

How it Helps

High School girls, grades 9-12, attend weekly Girl TECH CORPS after-school sessions during the school year.  During the summer they may attend a two week workshop, Connect2IT, or participate in internships created by mentors from local industry. The GTC 3.0 curriculum is designed to refine key marketable tech skills and encourage participants to consider computing majors in college.

College undergraduate women apply for employment in TWiCE.  TWiCE members may select from a variety of pipeline support projects, from curriculum development to technical support.  Involvement in community service helps them to see the social and economic value of their skills, while the organization of the group provides scholastic support and a personal/professional support network.  They also serve as role models in their communities, breaking the inaccurate stereotypes of asocial, introverted, or isolated computer scientists

Middle School girls, grades 6-8, attend weekly Girl TECH CORPS after-school sessions during the school year.  During the summer they may attend a two week workshop, Connect2IT.  The GTC 2.0 curriculum is designed to generate interest and skills in three major focus areas: Software Engineering (system analysis, programming), Informatics (GIS/GPS, bio-informatics), and Computational Media (video, music, games)

Elementary School girls, grades 3-5, attend weekly Girl TECH CORPS after-school sessions.  The GTC 1.0 curriculum is designed to introduce major technical topics and encourage enthusiasm about careers in computing.
